We live in a time when there is constant technological revolution.

The human race makes one discovery after another and climbs the mountain of knowledge.
Intellectuals worldwide acknowledge that the world has spiritually degraded to such a degree that all moral and ethical attainments of the civilization are now bursting at the seams. Some philosophers and theologians even predict that the last days of our era are approaching. Still, during these difficult times, many people on Earth have started to feel that God, the Creator, has become closer to them. In recent years, science stopped refuting God and has instead become the strongest evidence of His existence and His power. The words of the first cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin that he did not see God in space are now remembered as an old joke.
All people dream of a miracle in their lives, a miracle that will bring them happiness. The poor dream of becoming rich, the unattractive of becoming handsome and beautiful, the unnoticed of becoming well-known, and the sick of being well. It is specifically the sick, the people that suffer, who do not dream of anything else but of the miracle of healing. We know that medicine with all its developments and advances often becomes powerless in the face of deadly diseases and death. The Bible tells us about the miracles of healing. These stories were not written just to entertain us, but rather to give an example that we need to follow. The Bible states that many of the miracles performed by God can be performed by people filled with faith and the Holy Spirit. There are people, to whom the Creator has given a special opportunity to use His heavenly power on Earth. One such remarkable healing instrument of God is Korean doctor of theology Dr. Jae Rock Lee. During his powerful miracle and healing crusades in different parts of the world, he has helped thousands of hopelessly sick become well. People have been healed from cancer, AIDS, tuberculosis, and leukemia.
Five years ago, Dr. Jae Rock Lee created the World Christian Doctors’ Network (WCDN), an association of Christian doctors who, in addition to traditional medicine, use spiritual methods to help the sick. Once a year, doctors from all over the world gather for a conference, where they present cases of miraculous healing through prayer with medical data and documentation.
This year the 5th annual International Christian Medical conference was held in Trondheim, Norway. Over two hundred doctors from 28 countries, along with local media and press gathered at the riverfront Radisson hotel to talk, gain insight, and view nine presentations by medical professionals discussing their personal cases and experiences of healing.
In a welcome message, board chairman and founder Dr. Jae Rock Lee gaves his opinion on the state of medicine in the world today. “The quality of our lives today has been dramatically improved thanks to the development of scientific technology and medical science as well as the increase in personal production and income. It is also true that the unceasing efforts of the medical profession have brought improved health and extended the lives for many people. However, there are still many kinds of diseases that are difficult to cure. New diseases of unknown origin seem to make the dream of conquering incurable diseases grow increasingly fainter. In addition, there are still many people who do not have access to medical services. Environmental pollutants and stress also threaten the quality of life.”
Doctors from Korea, Burkina Faso, Denmark, Germany, Russia, Brazil, and a number of other countries all shared stories of healings they had witnessed and talked of their belief in the strength of prayer. These were all educated scientists, trained in the finest medical schools. Their skepticism gradually turned into a belief in miracles. One of the cases presented involved a violinist, whose wrist was healed after a complicated fracture. The doctors also discussed cases of infertility, severe appendicitis that would have led to death, and terminal brain cancer in a man named Hugo who actually took part in the conference.
One cardiologist, Dr. Chauncey Crandle from Palm Springs, Florida, told the story of an auto mechanic who walked into the E.R. complaining of chest pain. As he took out his wallet to retrieve his ID and insurance card, he collapsed to the ground, suffering from a major heart attack that would bring an end to his life within minutes. Doctors could do nothing. Dr. Crandle was called in when the patient had been deceased for over 40 minutes. He was only there to confirm what his colleagues already knew. The man was dead, and after many futile attempts to revive him with electric shock there was nothing left to do but to wheel his body to the morgue. Crandle nodded and made his way to the door, but as he left he heard a voice, “shock him one more time.” He turned around and asked the nurses to do so. They answered that the patient has had no pulse for over 45 minutes. He took the equipment into his own hands and shocked the lifeless body. After one attempt the man opened his eye and began breathing. News quickly spread through the hospital that a man had been brought back to life. In most cases, the lack of oxygen to the brain for over ten minutes would cause severe permanent brain damage, leaving the patient in a vegetative state for life. Yet, his story was true and the occurrence was scientifically documented. The accuracy of such events will come across great resistance to the unconvinced.
I came to this conference with an open mind, waiting to hear all the presentations before making any judgments as to the validity of these stories. These were not fanatics or televangelists speaking of miracles, but as I keep reminding myself, skilled and well-educated medical practitioners. Many were unbelievers until they saw these things happen before their very eyes. After the conference ended, I sat trying to process all the information in my head from the interviews and case presentations. Science and religion – two schools of thought which rarely run parallel in their beliefs, and regularly contradict each other. One was being used to prove the other’s existence. As we grow older and science aims to cure our aching bodies, we must remember that it may not be the only option before us.
The next conference of the World Christian Doctors’ Network is scheduled to take place in the Ukraine in 2009.
