On August 21, 2009, the Vankor oilfield located in the Krasnoyarsk territory officially entered production. Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin took part in the ceremony celebrating the oilfield’s launch.

The Prime Minister symbolically launched oil extraction operations at Vankor with a press of a button.

According to Mr. Putin, Vankor represents the initial step in carrying out a grand project for the development of hydrocarbon fields in Krasnoyarsk and the Yamal-Nenets autonomous district. The Prime Minister is convinced that a new oil and gas province will flourish in the space of several years.

Experts estimate that the regions of the Krasnoyarsk territory and the Yamal-Nenets district to which Mr. Putin referred are capable of producing more than 115 million tons of oil and gas condensate a year. At the dedication ceremony, the Russian Prime Minister expressed excitement at the prospects the new reserves offered for boosting exports through both the East Siberia-Pacific Ocean pipeline and the Baltic Pipeline System.

The project will also fuel the future economic development of the Krasnoyarsk territory and the Yamal-Nenets autonomous district.
