Russian expert have finalized the building of a spaceport in South Korea in July. The launch pad in Latin America is expected to be completed in October, according to the director of the Russian Federal Space Agency Roscosmos Anatoly Perminov.

Over 200 Russian scientists and construction workers are currently working on completing the launch site at Guiana Space Center in Kourou. The site will feature a mobile service tower.

The work at the space center in French Guiana will be finished by the end of October. Russia will subsequently deliver its launch vehicles and rockets to Latin America. First launches are tentatively scheduled for early 2010.

It is quite possible that the satellite designed to run Europe’s Galileo navigation system will be launched with Russia’s Soyuz rockets from French Guiana.

Russia’s Roscosmos agency also made a contract with Egypt for the development of a remote sensing system. The agency will also be involved in joint projects with Nigeria and Angola. In particular, Russia will devise a satellite communications system for Angola.
