Larisa Makhova graduated from the Stroganov Moscow High Art-Industrial School, specializing in design. While still in school, she joined the Jewelry Stones student association and discovered how to work with metals, precious stones, and enamel.

From 1973 through 1989, Larisa worked as a designer at an engineering company that made industrial equipment and also specialized in designing interiors. At the same time she pursued jewelry design. She has been a member of the Moscow Association of the Union of Artists since 1981.

Larisa frequently worked together with jewelry companies. She created a number of cast works in silver and gold.

Before her fortieth birthday, Larisa received a revelation. Larisa began to have a new perception of the world and of her place in it. Who are we? Why are we here? Where are we going? These are the eternal questions, which the artist tries to answer through her works. In her craft Larisa is guided by intuition and her inner feelings.

“When reason replaces intuition, creativity ends,” Larisa believes. All of her works are special in that they reflect a personal understanding of why the world exists, of tenderness, and of love. Thinking about these concepts is very much typical for Russian women.

In 1997, Larisa received the grand prize at the competition of the International Enamel Creativity Center in Hungary. “Larisa’s works exude live electricity, which, once it shocks you, cleanses you, makes you happy, gives you new strength, and helps you forget about the daily hassles,” Pap Gabor, a Hungarian connoisseur of fine arts, wrote in his review of Larisa’s work.

From 1997 to 2007 Larisa has exhibited her work every year at international enamel, art, and graphics shows in Hungary and elsewhere. Altogether, she participated in international symposiums, competitions, and trade shows in Moscow, Paris, Brussels, Vienna, Zaltsburg, and Munich.

She received several awards and diplomas. She also got a medal from the All-Russian Exhibition Center. Her works are valued highly by both private collectors and museums, Russian and foreign. Among the admirers of Larisa Makhova’s works is the former Secretary General of the United Nations Kofi Annan.

Larisa will debut with her collection in the United States at the Global Design show that will take place from February18 through February 20, 2011 in Philadelphia.
