The American Congress appropriated funds needed for modernizing the air traffic control system of Kyrgyzstan, according to a report from the Embassy of the United States in Bishkek. It is expected that the new system will boost the sovereignty of Kyrgyzstan as an independent state. In addition, the new traffic control architecture is likely going to generate more revenues from commercial flights to the Central Asian Republic. The U.S.-based Raytheon will embark on the project jointly with Kyrgyzaeronavigatsyia.

It is reported that the Kyrgyz company will assume the control over the system when it is finally completed. Among the project’s targets is the building of a new tower at the Manas Airport that would have the most modern aero-navigation controls systems.

While the American Embassy did not release the cost of the project, prior estimates have ballparked the figure at USD 30 million.
