At the conclusion of the Atomexpo-2011 international nuclear energy convention, representatives of Russia and the United States announced they were ready to work together on nuclear energy.

Steven Chu, the Energy Secretary of the United States, who was in attendance at Atomexpo-2011, noted that the accident at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant in Japan must be thoroughly analyzed. Secretary Chu further said that the U.S. is now working on a series of significant atomic energy initiatives, especially in the civil nuclear sector. The United States will continue to expand its civilian nuclear cooperation with Russia, in the areas of reactor development and securing radioactive material.
