During the first nine months of 2012, 27 former customs officials have been sentenced for the crimes of corruption, the press service of the Federal Customs Service reported. Of the corruption offenses, the most common one was bribe-taking, with 43 criminal cases prosecuted in 2012 (32.3 percent of the total number of corruption cases). During the first nine months of 2012, there were 943 meetings held aimed at preventive measures, including 251 certification sessions. In the first nine months of 2011, the number of meetings was 677, with only 210 certifications. There were 3,637 files examined relative to the actions of 3,301 officers. There were 835 violations detected within the nine months of 2012, including 172 violations of the code of official conduct, 38 violations involving conflict of interest, and 612 violations involving the misrepresentation of information relative to income. Disciplinary charges were brought against 63 officials. For the previous year, the number of violations was 1,023.
