Within the Khanty-Mansiysk autonomous district, Cisco created a network systemfor magistrate judges.

With the implementation of the project completed, 74 judicial districts and 26 cities in Yugra can enjoy access to a unified network. The courts now have videoconferencing, IP telephony, and easy dialing. Modernizing the communications network allowed the local judiciary to enhance its structure of organization and also maintain an effective channel of communication with the public.

Under Cisco’s project framework, the local networks of the individual judicial district were united in a single platform with unified access to information. The system is based on the U.S. manufacturer’s Catalyst 2960 series switches, Catalyst 3750-X series switches, as well as Cisco 1801, 2911, and 2921 routers. The devices facilitate data sharing, ensure accelerated data rates, and guarantee improved fault tolerance.

The safety of networks is ensured in compliance with the Russian law through the use of the Cisco ASA 5500 series adaptive security devices, as well as encryption equipment that has been certified through the Russian Federal Security Service. The networks’ mobile capabilities are provided with the use of the Aironet 1240 AG series access points.

As a result of the lack of uniformity in the judicial districts’ size, their docket loads, and location throughout the region, it was necessary for Cisco to devise central hubs and peripheral nodes within the network. In particular, the locations of central hubs are the cities of Nizhnevartovsk, Surgut, and Khanty-Mansiysk. Nodes at major metro areas consist of the most modern and the most expensive network elements, including backup components.

The judiciary’s integrated IP telephony network is built from the ground up with the use of Cisco’s unified communications devices. Voice, video, wireless, and other communications features are merged in a single platform. Telephone calls within the system are made through Cisco Unified IP Phone 7911G, Cisco Unified IP Phone 7962G, and Cisco Unified IP Phone 9971. Videoconferencing is supported by the Cisco TelePresence MCU MSE 8510 bridge.
