Instances of cybercrime in Russia, as reported by law enforcement agencies in 2012, increased by almost a third compared to 2011. The staggering statistics were announced by the head of the Office for Special Technical Measures of the Ministry of Interior Affairs Alexei Moshkov at the Information Security Forum Infoforum-2013.
Mr. Moshkov reported that the most frequent type of cybercrime is fraud and theft of funds from the accounts of individuals and organizations. The numbers of such crimes last year increased by 70 percent. “In 2012, we registered 3,645 account theft crimes, while in 2011 the number was only 2,123,” the official noted.
