Evraz to export 200,000 tons of rails

Evraz is a famous producer of steel components in Russia. The company has announced new plans to ship from 100,000 to 200,000 rails and about 40,000 to 50,000 wheels to the United States and the European countries every year.

Alexei Ivanov, who heads Evraz’s steel division and also serves as the vice president for the company, attended the Moscow Metals Summit recently. During the event, he said that the profit margin in the American and the European markets was almost double the margin on the Russian market. Previously, Evraz did not export its products, but now the company is planning to engage in foreign commerce in order to increase profits.

In a press conference that took place in June, a representative of Evraz said that the company had negotiated a contact with GHH Valdunes, and the two would now undertake collaborative efforts to sell wheels on the European market.

In reference to these new plans, Yevgeni Alexeyenko, who heads Evraz’s rail division, stated that Evraz had already acquired about 45 percent of the U.S. retail market, and, if the company started supplying Russian rails to the U.S., it might even acquire the rest of the market.

Alexeyenko told the media that the main competitors of Evraz in the U.S. were the steel giant Arcelor, some Japanese firms, and Chinese steel producers.

If the company started supplying its Russian rail products, total export would amount to over 15,000 ton, which will definitely increase the performance of the company. Alexeyenko also said that the only issue was that the company had not discussed this plan with its clients. However, he was positive that all the clients would agree to the plan because it would be easier for them to meet the demand.

Alexeyenko also added that the company was well aware of what it had to do to implement the new projects. He informed reporters that these plans would probably be implemented in early 2014, when Evraz’s Russian plants would first produce supplies for the U.S.

Evraz is one of the biggest world steel product manufacturers, which is based in the United Kingdom, but conducts most of its operation in Russia. Evraz has manufacturing plants in several countries, including Russia, the United States, Italy, South Africa, the Czech Republic, and Ukraine. In 2012, the output of rail products was around 1.83 million tons. Compared to the figures for 2011, this number actually reflected a decrease of about 0.3 million. Now that Evraz is going to sell to other international markets, the company will have to increase its output.
