ExIm bank may finance aircraft acquisition

The Export-lmport Bank of the United States is in receipt of an application from a passenger air carrier based in Russia for a loan exceeding USD200 million. The information first appeared in the Federal Register in November.

If the financing application gets adjudicated favorably, the line of credit will be used to export Boeings Ill’s to Russia. The planes will be utilized for passenger traffic inside of Russia, as well as from Russia to other destinations. It is possible that the planes will be used on U.S.-bound routes too.

The value of the transaction has not been disclosed, neither was the volume of foreign production capacity. Yet, it is clear from the notice that the measure of increased wide-body passenger capacity for Russia is one or more percent of the comparable statistic for airlines in the United States.
