Gazprom has commenced installation work at a gas compressor unit at the Russkaya station within the Krasnodar krai. The purpose of the station is to facilitate the transmission of gas through the South Stream pipeline. The Ladoga gas compressor unit installed at Russkaya will have the capacity of 32 megawatts. The compressor’s efficiency is at 36 percent, which is considered reasonably high by industry standards, and the operation of the compressor results in only low emissions. A total of 14 Ladoga compressors will be utilized at the station when it is completed, bringing the total capacity up to 448 megawatts.
The installation of the first gas compressing unit proceeded in accordance with initial plans and marked a significant step in building the Russkaya station, which itself is a critical element of the South Stream pipeline. In line with South Stream’s targets, Russkaya will have no matches in the world in terms of capacity. The station will be responsible for driving 63 billion cubic meters of natural gas over a distance of 900 kilometers across the Black Sea’s seabed.
