The U.S.-based WorleyParsons company was awarded a lucrative contract from Lukoil Middle East to provide project management services for the West Qurna-2 oilfield development project in Iraq for a term of three year.

The American company is expected to extend project management services, share technical expertise, and provide personnel for construction oversight to support the Russian’ company’s engineering, procurement, and construction activities related to the West Qurna-2 field. The U.S.-based company also will be involved in devising a comprehensive management and control framework for the project covering the phase of its execution. The comprehensive system will address all aspects of the project, starting from the design phase.

The agreement signed with WorleyParsons envisions the construction of multiple facilities at the West Qurna-2 site. Among these sites are a central processing unit, a gas treatment unit, well pads, and water treatment utilities.

The offices of WorleyParsons in Iraq and the UAE will be responsible for carrying out the project, although the company does plan to engage various engineering, design, procurement, and construction contractors around the world. WorleyParsons anticipates that the revenue from the contract will reach USD82 million. Andrew Wood, the CEO of WorleyParsons, has announced that the company welcomes the opportunity for its continued participation in developing the infrastructure for the extraction of hydrocarbons in Iraq. At the same time, Mr. Wood acknowledged the substantial size of the West Quarna-2 project and the significance it has for the development of Iraq’s economy as a whole.
