In mid-July, the third biggest steel producer in Russia, the Magnitogorsk Iron and Steel Works, also known as MMK, began the operation of Mill 2000, which constitutes the first block of the new cold roll production complex.
The Prime Minister of Russia Vladimir Putin attended the commissioning celebration. The mill will produce highly durable cold rolled product, as well as galvanized steel. The metal products will have application in the automotive, home appliance, and construction sectors.
Altogether, by the time the production complex with the capacity for creating 2 million metric tons of products is complete, MMK will have invested some USD 1.6 billion in upgrading its facility.
