Mechel increased steel production

Mechel’s steel division reported an increase in steel production of seven percent to 6.532 million tons. Iron production also went up by 12 percent to 4.161 million tons compared to the previous year. In the mining sector, growth in coal production was one percent against the performance results for 2011. In 2012, iron ore sales volumes remained at the same level as they had been in 2011. The sales of long and flat products in 2012 increased by seven percent and six percent respectively. Improved performance in large measure was due to the optimization of the customer base of the Russian and the Kazakh service units, as well as the increase in sales generated by the Mechel Global Service network.

In ferroalloys, ferrochrome sales for 2012 increased by 20 percent compared to the level where they had been in 2011.
