Within four years, the share of modern weapons and equipment in the Russian navy will reach 30 percent, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at a meeting on equipping the navy in early August 2012.
By 2020, the share of such weapons will reach 70 percent, Putin said.
In accordance with the state program of armaments, the President noted, the government will allot for the formation of “a qualitatively new image of the navy” some 4.5 trillion roubles, with about a third of the funds already earmarked in the next five years.
The President said that by 2020 the Military Fleet will have 51 new surface warships and 16 attack submarines, not counting the eight strategic missile Borei submarines.
