New car sales in Russia up 28 percent

The Marussia is a sports car, designed and developed in Russia by Marussia Motors, the first Russian manufacturer of the premium-class vehicles.

The sales of new passenger vehicles and small commercial cars on the Russian market went up by 28 percent in the first eleven months of the year. The number of cars sold from January until November was

1 706 254. Sales were 189 902 in November, a figure reflecting an 80-percent increase on a year-on-year basis.

According to the Automobile Manufacturers Committee of the Association of European Business, sales are expected to be on the rise for the final weeks of 2010. The revised forecast for 2010 projects the number of vehicles sold at 1.9 million. This figure is much higher than what has originally been predicted. The overall growth of the auto market in relation to 2009 will be at around 30 percent. Sales in November of 2010 were the highest since December 2008.

Experts credit the resurgence of the Russian automotive market to the increased availability of financing plans, as well as the introduction of the “cash-for-clunkers” scrappage scheme.

Even though the market now appears to have stabilized, analysts believe that it is too early to say that the crisis has completely passed. Only sustained growth in the number of sales over the course of the next several months will show that the market has fully recovered.
