In 2012, the number of registered credit organizations in Russia decreased by 18, dropping down to 1,094 as of January 1, 2013. As such, according to the data published by the Bank of Russia on the registration and licensing of credit organizations, the number of credit-issuing establishments declined 1.6 percent within one year.
The number of active credit institutions was 956 by January 1, 2013, down by 22 compared to the number from last year.
The number of banks as of the start of January of the current year was 897, which is 25 less (-2.7 percent) than at the start of January 2012 (922). The number of non-bank credit organizations went down from 59 to 56 by January 1, 2013.
