The number of passenger cars in Russia in 2012 increased by 5.1 percent to 36.9 million units, according to the report of Avtostat. Among the car brands, the leader is the Russian manufacturer LADA, with 13.67 million units in operation, or 37 percent of the total number of passenger vehicles.
The first among foreign-brand cars and the second in absolute terms was the Japanese carmaker Toyota, with 3.1 million units. The Japanese Nissan is in the third place with 1.5 million units. Russia’s GAZ automaker has only 1.4 million passenger cars on Russia’s roads, as the company ceased passenger car production in 2010.
