Passenger traffic on the network of JSC Russian Railways in January-November 2012 increased by 6.5 percent to 969.4 million people, the company said. Of these, the long-distance transportation of passengers stood at 107.6 million people, which is 1.5 percent more than in the same period of the previous year. The passenger figure for suburban routes was 861.8 million people (an increase of 7.2 percent). Passenger traffic since the beginning of 2012 increased by 3.6 percent compared to the previous year and stood at 134.4 billion passenger-kilometers. In November 2012, railway passenger traffic increased by 2.7 percent compared to the same period of the previous year, to 83.7 million passengers. Of this number, 74.9 million passengers were transported on suburban routes (up three percent) and 8.8 million on long-distance routes (an increase of 0.3 percent).
