The Moscow-based company Ecosorber is on the cutting edge of environmental technologies to assist with cleaning oil spills and creating sophisticated filtering systems.
Core company activities include the development, manufacturing, and marketing of Megasorb and GIGASORB multi-reversible sorbents and sorbent-based equipment (sorbing cartridges and plates, coalescence separators, response equipment) designed for water conditioning, all kinds of sewage treatment, and the removal of oil and other hazardous liquids spills from land and water.
The Megasorb sorbent is a non-woven polymer web fabricated with the use of the Strutto technology. The thickness of the web is 25 mm, and web width is 2.0 m. The specific density is 0.02 g/cm3. Oil sorption capacity in one cycle is 36 kg by 1 kg of sorbent. 250 cycles would yield 9000 kg by 1 kg of sorbent. The rate of sorption is 2.6 kg/kg/min. The web can be used multiple times. Regeneration is achieved by squeezing the web between rolls. The web can be used in cartridges or plates installed in water-conditioning and sewage-treatment systems, as response equipment (mates, cushions, cloth) to remove oil spills from land and – in the case of thick film – from water areas.
Success formula: Megasorb + Nanocarbon = GIGASORB
Sorbent GIGASORB is a Megasorb-based product produced by applying and fixing activated carbon nano-particles to the fibers of the material.
The GIGASORB material and its manufacturing method are protected by an invention patent No. 2356623 and utility patent No. 68920 of the Russian Federation. In the All-Russia contest arranged by the Fund for the Promotion of the Development of Small Businesses in Science and Technology, GIGASORB was awarded the first prize in the “Environment” category.
GIGASORB’s sorption capacity is 36:1. At the same time, the material can be regenerated just as easily as the Megasorb sorbent. It has the ability to absorb a wide range of substances, which is typical of activated carbon.
Floating guard booms based on Megasorb and GIGASORB sorbents can perform two tasks at the same time – containment and collection. Thus, there is no need to use skimmers and sewage pits. The sorbents simply allow the water to pass through. Data from test reports show that the response equipment based on Megasorb sorbent is better than other similar products created in Russia, such as Uzh, and Anakonda. The response equipment based on GIGASORB has even better properties.
