Radiation protective unit for astronauts

The International Space Station (ISS) will receive a new laboratory unit this year. This module features an extra cabin which will provide astronauts with complete protection from the radiation that exists in space.

The cabin has been designed such that it meets all the safety requirements set by the ISS. These cabins are already a norm in the American ISS segment.

Vladislav Petrov, who heads the Radiation Department at the Russian Academy of Sciences, stated that radiation safety is a prime concern. As such, the government pays a lot of attention to this problem, and some Russian innovations even outdo the protective measures developed in the U.S.
