Russia, E.U. may sign new basic agreement
The pause in the talks on a new basic agreement between Russia and the European Union can be ended with the signing of the documents on Russia’s accession to the WTO in Geneva on December 16, 2011, said Russia’s permanent representative to the E.U., Vladimir Chizhov.
Russia’s accession to the World Trade Organization will add new elements to Russia-E.U. relations, he said during a video conference between Moscow and Brussels. Notably, it will give an additional incentive to the talks, the “technical break” of which has taken too long.
Speaking of the 28th Russia-E.U. summit in Brussels on December 14-15, Chizhov said that no breakthrough decisions were to be made there.
