Russia’s earnings from the export of electricity in 2012 decreased by 7.2 percent to USD1.019 billion against USD1.098 billion in 2011, according to the Federal Customs Service of Russia. Revenues from the exports of electricity to non-C.I.S. countries decreased by 40 percent to USD661.5 million. Revenues from exports to the C.I.S. countries more than doubled, from USD3.5 million to USD357.7 million. In actual terms, total exports of electricity from Russia in 2012 increased by 3.2 percent from 18.549 billion kW/h to 19.143 billion kW/h. Exports of electricity to foreign countries decreased by 29.7 percent from 18.482 billion kW/h to 12.996 billion kW/h. Exports to the C.I.S. countries increased 92 times, jumping from 66.6 million kW/h to 6.148 billion kW/h. According to the Ministry of Energy, electricity production in Russia in 2012 increased by 1.2 percent compared to the figure for 2011, going up to 1,065.9 billion kW/h.
