Sakhalin LNG increased production

In 2012, the Sakhalin oil and gas company Sakhalin Energy produced 10.9 million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG), which accounted for almost 114 percent of the designed capacity of Russia’s first LNG plant. As such, the share of Sakhalin LNG in the world market in 2012 was about 4.5 percent. The performance results were announced at the regular meeting of Sakhalin Energy with the Sakhalin public in early February. These meetings are held on a regular basis twice a year to discuss the economic, industrial, environmental, and social record of Sakhalin Energy. The different aspects of the company’s work were discussed at the meeting, which included representatives of the regional government, regional legislators, and members of non-profit organizations. In early February, the speakers at the public meeting reported an increase in revenues into the regional budget and praised the company’s social initiatives. Also, suggestions were made for further cooperation in the field of environmental protection. The discussion at the public meetings will set the tone for the company’s sustainability report for 2012 due in April 2013. The first public meeting of Sakhalin Energy took place in November 2012.
