In 2009, the geologists working for company Surgutneftegas discovered nine new fields that are capable of production. The company’s discoveries in the Khanty-Mansiisk autonomous district included the Ozernoye-I, Vysotnoye, Vostochno-Lyaminskoye, Vostochno-Rogozhnikovskoye, and the Yuzhno-Lyaminskoye fields. The company also discovered two fields in the Nenets autonomous district, the Syamayuskoye field and the Zapadno-Sarutayuskoye field. In the Sakha republic, the company discovered the Peleduiskoye and the Yuzhno-Talakanskoye fields.
Total exploration activity of Surgutneftegas and survey drilling conducted in 2009 increased by 8 percent, reaching 182 600 meters. These results account for 39 percent of Russia’s exploratory drilling. In 2009, Surgutneftegas finished drilling 66 wells and the construction of 72 wells.
Commercial drilling by Surgutneftegas was up to 3.658 million meters in 2009. The company increased its drilling activity by 17 percent compared to 2008. Surgutneftegas’ drilling figure represents 26 percent of the total distance drilled in Russia in 2009.
Surgutneftegas brought online 1 131 net oil wells in 2009. The company conducted 2D seismic analysis of
11 500 liner kilometers and 3D seismic analysis of over 1 000 square kilometers. Surgutneftegas conducted geological exploration in 10 regions of Russia in three of the country’s hydrocarbons-rich areas: Western-Siberia, Eastern Siberia, and Timano-Pechora.
