Market liquidity – USD 4 trillion daily turnover
The Foreign Exchange market, or FOREX (FX), is the largest and fastest growing financial market in the world. The daily volume exceeds USD 4 trillion, twenty-five times the combined volume of both the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq. In the mid-90s, with the advent of electronic trading, the FX market was introduced to smaller investors, providing them access comparable to that of larger affluent investors and institutional participants alike. Today, both the investment community and active traders can trade alongside large financial institutions, capitalizing on daily fluctuations in the market.
Deciding which clearing firm or Forex dealer to trade with is an extremely important decision. The vast majority of FX dealers or Futures Commission Merchants (FCM) will profit on their client’s losing trades. This practice is called market making. Unfortunately, in most cases, FX dealers will trade against you to generate profits. GFS Forex & Futures, Inc. is one of the few registered FX dealers who offer Straight Through Processing (STP), an execution model for clearing client trades, eliminating the need for a “Dealing Desk.” Brokers who make markets establish dealing desks, whereby traders make decisions on whether or not they trade against their client or transfer the risk to a counter party. The latter can produce a glaring disadvantage to the trader, as there is a significant conflict of interest between the broker and the client.
The FX market has gained a great deal of popularity over the past decade, with daily volume increasing fourfold. Participants find this market attractive for many reasons. No other market offers all of the advantages of the FX market.
Investors find the market very enticing and attractive, but many do not have the proper time or knowledge to manage their account more effectively. GFS can offer a solution through a Managed Account Program. GFS’ account executives can point you in the direction of professional money managers or Commodity Trading Advisors who can manage your funds. Portfolio managers employ sophisticated trading strategies that are not correlated to other markets, such as stocks or bonds. In addition, GFS recently launched Spot Gold and Spot Silver for our clients. Both products can act as safe assets during periods of economic uncertainty.
According to Max Shyyan of GFS Forex & Futures, Inc., the leading Wall Street FX dealer, “during this worldwide economic crisis FOREX is still a viable option to turn to for opportunities to make profit. In a time of crisis, savvy investors shy away from traditional asset classes, such as equities, and attempt to make financial gain through the speculative market, often with a focus on commodities, and, during this particular slowdown, with an emphasis on currency trading.” Even as the dollar fluctuates in a very volatile way against the world’s other major currencies, the right Forex experts are able to identify the right entry and exit points to take advantage of these wild fluctuations. Shyyan said “as an example of currency price movements, I can point out the significant price move of the Canadian Dollar, a currency that heavily depends on crude oil prices, since Canada has the second largest crude oil reserve on the planet. We saw huge Canadian Dollar value appreciation while oil prices were sky rocketing last summer. Due to the rising crisis in the world, oil prices have dropped by more than 60%. We anticipated this would cause a large decrease in the value of the Canadian Dollar, and, over the past 6 weeks, we have seen just that.”
While the Forex market has been very attractive over the past several years to retail or “hobby” traders, the ability to access a pool of professional traders to manage an individual account through GFS Forex & Futures opens up to a much larger segment of the investment community the chance to take advantage of what this dynamic market has to offer.
