At the end of 2012, the turnover of cargo at Russian seaports increased by 5.6 percent to 565.5 million tons, as reported by the Association of Sea Ports (ASOP).
The transshipment of dry cargo increased by 7.3 percent to 251.7 million tons, mainly from coal, which went up 13.9 percent to 89.2 million tons, container freight, which increased 8.3 percent to 42.7 million tons, ferrous metals, which rose 4.8 percent to 25.6 million tons, corn, which saw an increase of 23.3 percent to 24 million tons, and nonferrous metals, which increased 2 percent to 4.2 million tons.
At the same time, the transshipment of mineral fertilizers fell 17 percent to 10.4 million tons, as did the shipment of ore, which declined 10.6 percent to 7.2 million tons, timber, which dropped down 3.9 percent to 5.9 million tons, refrigerated cargo, which decreased 14.1 percent to 3.9 million tons, and metals, which went down 3.2 percent to 3.7 million tons.
The volume of liquid bulk cargo increased by 4.3 percent to 313.8 million tons. In particular, crude oil shipments increased by 1.8 percent to 197 million tons, and the shipments of petroleum products went up by eight percent to 114 million tons.
