U.S. & Altai scientists fight cancer

A new cancer research center is being set up in the Altai territory in Russia. At the new facility, both Russian and American researchers will study the different types of malignancies and will design methods that help in the early diagnosis of the fatal disease. The Altai University recently held a meeting to discuss the project’s agenda. At the meeting, Stephen Johnston, who is a reputed researcher at the University of Arizona, said that if cancer could be diagnosed in the initial stages, there would be more chances to figure out suitable and effective treatment plans. He believed that if the research that had been conducted in the area of cancer treatment and diagnosis in the U.S. could be compiled together with the research conducted in Russia, and specifically in the Altai territory, more viable conclusions could be made. Johnston also added that Altai researchers could develop effective medicines for treating cancer, but that the costs of the production process should not be their primary concern. Instead, private investment should be utilized to manufacture the drugs. The future goals of the Altai research center have yet to be drafted in detail. The main focus of the institution will be on the early diagnosis of the disease. Also, synthetic bodies will be developed that could play an active role in treating the malignancies. All this was possible because researchers have discovered that the immune system’s response sometimes can prevent tumor formation in the initial stages. The key to success is that the disease be diagnosed early.
