U.S. Turkey imports are prohibited
The State Federal Inspectorate of Consumer Rights prohibited the importation of turkey meat from an American-based company Cargill Meat Solutions Corp. The governmental agency instituted the import band amidst suspicions that the minced turkey produced by Cargill Meat Solutions Corp. in Arkansas is responsible for the outbreak of salmonella, with at least 79 reported cases of the illness (including one death).
The spike in the occurrence of the disease in the U.S. took place from March to July of 2011. The company has temporarily suspended its operations and issued a recall of 16 300 tons of minced turkey meat distributed across the United States.
