GAZ Group, a Russian manufacturer of commercial vehicles, made an agreement with WABCO Holding that develops electronic, mechanic, and mechatronic devices for the commercial vehicle industry. According to the agreement WABCO will supply braking systems and their parts for new medium-duty trucks produced by GAZ in 2014. The list of supplied products will include anti-lock braking systems (ABS), high-performance single-piston air disc brakes and other components that make vehicles safer and more economical.
Medium-duty trucks of the next generation will be supplied with pneumatic brakes. Previously, GAZ vehicles were equipped with hydraulic systems. Commenting on the agreement, Bo Anderson, president and CEO of GAZ said it was his group’s principle to source from suppliers that equip vehicles with the most modern and technologically-advanced systems and components. The new agreement with WABCO is another step in the group’s strategy to improve the quality and reliability of its products, while also increasing vehicle safety and efficiency.
According to Mike Thompson, WABCO’s vice president, the contract with GAZ Group demonstrates how WABCO continues to deliver a world of difference through technology leadership, global connectivity, and service excellence. WABCO will become GAZ Group’s sole supplier of braking systems for the Russian manufacturer’s new range of medium-duty trucks.
