The KFC restaurant chain is planning to expand in the Moscow region. The fast food chain is investing USD100 million in opening new outlets. New restaurant locations will have drive through windows. Yum! Brands Russia is standing behind the expansion of KFC in Russia, lead by the group’s director of development Scott Mezvinsky. New locations with drive through windows are calculated to reduce the chain’s dependency on foot traffic, which is a major part of the company’s strategy.
The pilot drive through window will start working at the KFC restaurant in the town of Scherbinka in the Moscow region. KFC’s expansion will continue in Siberia.
At the present moment, KFC has established 250 restaurants in Russia and the C.I.S. There will be 20 more new restaurants opened in 2014. The owner of the KFC chain is Yum! Brands with headquarters in Kentucky. Yum!
Brands has the largest restaurant chain in the world. There are 40,000 KFC restaurants, most of which are located in the United States. Yum! Brands owns Pizza Hut and Taco Bell as well.
In 2005, Yum! Brands established a partnership with the Rostik Group in Russia. In 2010, Yum! Brands bought out
the Rostik-KFC operation in its entirety. As of 2011, all Russian outlets carry the KFC brand.
Yum! Brands considers the C.I.S. to be its main priority because the market there is growing fast. Yum! Brands plans to open 460 restaurants in the C.I.S. by 2015, with projected annual revenue of USD1 billion. The company experienced a 60-percent growth rate in Russia and the C.I.S. countries during the last two years. In 2012 alone, the company grew 46 percent and opened 35 new restaurants.
