A photo exhibition dedicated to the 60th anniversary of the launch of the first artificial satellite called Sputnik opened at the U.N. headquarters in New York on October 4, 2017.
The Permanent Representative of Russia at the U.N. Vasily Nebenzya and the U.N. Secretary General António Guterres attended the opening of the exhibit.
“I am glad to welcome you to today’s event marking the 60th anniversary of the beginning of the space age for all mankind. With this exhibition we try to fill the immensity of space and to bring memories of the launch of the first artificial satellite, as well as of the important milestones in Soviet space exploration,” the Russian diplomat stated.
The Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev sent a congratulatory message to all individuals involved in the space sector in connection with the 60th launch anniversary of the first satellite.
