Imports into Russia grew by 27.5% from January to July

The value of goods imported into Russia from foreign countries in the seven months from January to July 2017 stood at USD107,554.9 million. The new preliminary figure that the Russian Federal Customs Service (FCS) reported on August 9, 2017 demonstrated a 27.4-percent increase in year-on-year terms.

 

In July 2017, the value of foreign imports was USD17,819 million, having stayed virtually flat in relation to the results reported in June 2017. At the same time, imports of textile products and footwear increased by 15.9 percent, reaching USD1,210.8 million, while imports of food products and raw materials for food production decreased by 3.8 percent to USD1,800.8 million. At the same time, imports of machinery and chemical products remained at the same level as in the previous month.

 

In July 2017 import from foreign countries soared 29.3 percent in relation to the corresponding period of the previous year. Imports of mechanical engineering products increased by 35.2 percent, while food product imports rose 23.1 percent. Textile product and footwear imports demonstrated a 21.8-percent growth, as imports of chemical products showed a 19.7-percent increase.

 

The trade turnover between Russia and the U.S. from January to June reached some USD10.7 billion, reflecting an increase of 22.1 percent year-over-year. Exports of products from Russia to the United States stood at USD4.8 billion, a result that demonstrates a 21.7-percent growth. U.S. imports to Russia totaled USD5.8 billion, a figure reflecting a 22.4-percent increase.

 

Russia’s trade turnover with the European Union increased by 28.7 percent to reach USD117.8 billion. Russia’s exports to the E.U. added up to USD79.4 billion, which marked an increase of 31.2 percent in year-on-year terms. At the same time, E.U. imports to Russia reached USD38.3 billion, demonstrating a 23.7-percent increase relative to last year’s results.

 

Russia’s trade with China stood at USD38.38 billion, which reflected a 35.4-percent year-on-year growth. Russia’s exports to China rose by 39.5 percent to USD18.1 billion. Imports from China rose 31.9 percent to USD20.1 billion.

 

According to the FCS, overall imports of goods into Russia in 2016 stood at USD162.865 billion in value terms, increasing only slightly in relation to 2015 results.
