U.S. crossed the line in announcing its intention to supply lethal weapons to Ukraine

Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov called the U.S. an accomplice in fomenting war in Ukraine.

The U.S. went too far in allowing supplies of weapons to Ukraine, said Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov on December 23, 2017.

“In a sense, the United States has crossed the line by announcing its intention to hand over weapons to wage a war in Ukraine not as part of any commercial contracts, which the American companies have been quietly doing for a long time, but on a government-to- government level,” the Ministry’s press service cited Ryabkov Ryabkov as saying.

“Washington is trying to present itself as a mediator. [The U.S.] is not an intermediary, it is [becoming] an accomplice in fomenting war,” the deputy minister emphasized.

“To begin with, they began talking about Javelin missile systems,” he pointed out. “The question is what’s next? In any case, American weapons can lead to new victims in our neighboring country, to which we cannot remain indifferent.”

Ryabkov expressed confidence that history “will inevitably put everything in its place.” “However, how can we talk about reconciling the role of the U.S. in resolving the conflict in Ukraine under these circumstances?” the diplomat asked rhetorically.

The diplomat said that the U.S. played an active role in organizing a coup d’état in Kiev several years ago. He went on to say that the United States supported the Ukrainian government when it banned the Russian language and bombed “those who refused to stand under Bandera’s banners.” Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister said that the U.S. is now pushing Ukraine toward new bloodshed. “The Kiev revanchists are already shelling the Donbass region every day, not wishing to negotiate peacefully and cracking down on the disobedient people by force,” he added. “Yet, the U.S. decided to give them weapons.”

“Unfortunately, it is now an empty affair to call on American politicians to change their minds,” Ryabkov said. “Russophobia so captures them that they applaud the Ukrainian nationalist battalions.”
