Chaika is the largest manufacturer
of watches in Russia:
its staff exceeds 4000 employees. The factory produces watches of three varying
mechanical calibers, as well as watches with Japanese quartz movements. The
annual output volume is 1.5 to 2 million watches. Chaika
has long-term partners in France,
England,
Germany,
Canada,
Japan,
and Latin America.
Right now, the factory is looking to enter the American market.
The
factory is located in a history-rich town of Uglich.
Since ancient times, Uglich has been proud of its
craftsmen, blacksmiths, and jewelers, whose traditions are still alive today.
It was not accidental that a watch factory came into existence in Uglich during the 1940’s. From then on, regular equipment
updates and constant search of new artistic solutions allowed Chaika to keep up with the leaders of Europe’s
watch industry.
The
products of the Joint Stock Company “Watch Factory Chaika,”
the elegant watches with enamel inserts and decorative filigree work developed
by skilled designers, are known far beyond the borders of Russia.
Watches designed according to the traditions of Russian folk crafts are
appropriately considered Chaika's exclusive
specialty. These prestigious, high-quality women's watches are true works of
art and objects of luxury. Practically all external design is done by hand;
every model is unique. The usage of enamel paintings and filigree in
combination with processed semi-precious and synthetic stones gives an
inimitable charm to the items. In old Russia,
enamel was called finift, an ancient technique of
jewelry arts. The word finift comes from Greek and
means “a shining stone.” For producing enamel, it is necessary to put some
glass powder on a skillfully processed metal surface and heat it until it turns
into a vitreous layer. Painted enamel has an extremely delicate, miniature
drawing done in heat-resistant paint on an enamel background. It is fragile,
but will withstand both cold and heat, as well as moisture and time. In
exclusive models, artists use one of the most complex jewelry techniques:
three-dimensional filigree. During that process, one pattern is laid down on
top of another one, creating luxurious ornaments.
Chaika takes pride in its
collection of exclusive masterpieces. All items in the collection are crafted
by individual masters. The watches are true works of art decorated with finift and world-famous Ural gems. Potential US
partners are sure to have success in advancing Chaika’s
exclusive collection on the American market.
In
addition Chaika accepts customized orders, made with
drawings or photos of the customers. Chaika controls
the entire production cycle, from buying materials to selling its finished
products. It is the only watch factory in Russia
and the countries the former USSR
that has international quality certification – standard “ISO-9001”. The high
quality of “Chaika” watches is always improving with
the use of an extensive production program, mechanization, automation, and the
introduction of robots and automatic manipulators. The reliable operation of “Chaika” watches makes it possible to use the watches
practically in every climate zone.
