From January to August 2016, the sales of new cars in Russia decreased by 16 percent year-on-year, according to a research note by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) published in October. In money terms, the market shrank by one percent in Russian roubles, and by 16 percent in U.S. dollars (due to currency fluctuations).
The total production of cars in Russia from January to August 2016 decreased by 13.5 percent, but some of the automakers managed to increase their output.
Light commercial vehicle sales decreased by seven percent to 54.6 thousand, and the total market volume is expected to decrease by four percent to 88 thousand units in 2016. The truck market dropped by three percentage points to 31 thousand units. In 2016, truck sales are expected to decrease by six percent to 48 thousand vehicles.
In the bus segment, total 12-month sales are projected to decrease by six percent to 8.5 thousand units. The demand from the government and state support measures are keeping up sales in this segment.
