Norilsk Nickel signs major long-term contract with VDM metals

The Norilsk Nickel Group and VDM Metals GmbH, the world’s leading producer of specialty steels and nickel alloys, announced a major five-year contract for the supply of nickel.

VDM Metals will use this nickel to manufacture high-nickel-content alloys for the oil and gas, the chemical, the petroleum, and the automotive industries, among others. The contract was signed on December 12, 2016 by Sergey Batekhin, Nornickel’s senior vice president, and Dr. Niclas Muller, the CEO of VDM Metals, at the Russian company’s headquarters in Moscow. The price of nickel deliveries will be set based on market terms.

“We are pleased to see that our successful multi-year-long cooperation with VDM Metals has progressed to a new level of long-term relations. A strong and lasting partnership with one of the world’s largest nickel alloy and specialty steel consumers of refined nickel is a top priority for Nornickel’s sales and distribution strategy,” Sergey Batekhin said.

“The new contract is an extension of the agreement between our companies that was signed back in February 2015,” Dr. Niclas Muller said.

VDM Metals and Nornickel hold the world’s leading positions in their respective industries. The cooperation between the two companies will ensure the delivery of the highest quality nickel and specialty alloys products to VDM Metals’ customers.
