Russia may impose temporary restrictions on imports of soybeans from the U.S.

Russia may impose temporary restrictions on imports of corn and soybeans from the U.S. based on evidence of imports of infected products, the country’s phytosanitary authority reported on January 27, 2016.

 

The quarantine phytosanitary control measures revealed seven types of objects qualifying as quarantine hazards in Russia in soybeans imported from the U.S. in 64 cases in 2015, as well as four quarantine hazards in four cases in January 2016.

 

According to Russia’s Federal Customs Service, imports of soybeans for the first 10 months of 2015 totaled 1.7 million tons, including approximately one million tons from Paraguay, 0.4 million tons from Brazil, and 0.3 million tons from the United States.
