Following a request from the International Charter on Space and Major Disasters in the end of January 2016, Canopus-B, a space vehicle of Russia’s Federal Space Agency (ROSCOSMOS), captured images of U.S. territory following major floods in the U.S. over a large area from Illinois to Mississippi, ROSCOSMOS reported.
The Research Center for Earth Operative Monitoring of the Russian Space Systems has received an inquiry from the International Charter for the provision of remote Earth sensing data and promptly commenced the monitoring of the emergency area.
According to media reports, the flood killed 31 people, and resulted in the evacuation of countless other individuals.
The flood hit the states of Illinois, Missouri, Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Mississippi the most, with immediate danger for the neighboring states of Louisiana and Tennessee.
