United Aircraft announces delivery of first new Superjet

Sukhoi Civil Aircraft (SCAC) delivered its first Sukhoi Superjet 100 (SSJ100) with a new variable cabin layout to State Transport Leasing Company (STLC).

Before the end of the year, six SSJ100’s with the updated layout will join the fleet of Yamal Airlines. 100Y layout is SCAC’s novel solution. The cabin concept was suggested by the customer, STLC, and approved by Russian certification authorities in October of the current year.

What makes the new layout distinct is the possibility to effectively vary the number of seats and the class of service: the airplane’s layout can be configured as a 100-seat full economy class (100), or a two-class layout providing for the availability of a business class (8+85).

Apart from the number of seats, such a layout differs from the standard one in that it has a modified galley and the variable seat pitch that ranges from 34 inches to 29 inches depending on the row.

According to Sukhoi Civil Aircraft president Kamil Gaynutdinov, “The development of the new cabin layout that would meet the customers’ demands to the highest extent possible is part of Sukhoi Superjet’s promotion strategy. The new layout designed for STLC allows achieving maximum efficiency in commercial service, subject to the operator’s business model.”

The interiors are manufactures by B/E Aerospace, an American company. The installation of the interiors is carried out at the Ulyanovsk Aviation Plant Aviastar-SP.

Aircraft with the new layout are scheduled to be delivered to Yamal Airlines in November, 2016. By the end of the year, Yamal Airlines’ fleet will grow by a total of six SSJ100’s with the new modification. In the current year, the airline has already received three SSJ100’s with 103-seat single class layout, and the aircraft perform flights within the airline’s route network.

“We continue the implementation of the state-run program relating to domestic aircraft leasing. The demand for SSJ100 leasing on the terms and conditions offered by STLC is still high. Furthermore, it goes over the volumes planned to be purchased within the state aviation industry program for 2015-2017. In other words, a degree of competition for the SSJ100 aircraft emerges among the airlines,” STLC director general Sergey Khramagin said.
